ALMA awarded a new industrial contract in the ESA MetOp-SG programme

ALMA Sistemi, in partnership with Elital Srl, has been awarded an industrial contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the development of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for the MicroWave Sounder (MWS) instrument on the MetOp Second Generation (MetOp-SG) satellite series.

This achievement represents an important step forward compared to previous consultancy activities carried out by ALMA in support of Elital. Over the years, ALMA has built a strong track record of successful contributions to major ESA programmes, including MeteoSat Third Generation (MTG) and ExoMars.

For the MWS MGSE, ALMA is acting as a full partner of the consortium, working alongside Elital in the engineering phase of the project. This role highlights the company’s growing capabilities in the design and development of ground support systems that ensure the safe integration and testing of satellite instruments.

Negotiations with the prime contractor, Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth (UK), are currently ongoing, with the official Kick-Off meeting expected by the end of September.

By joining the MetOp-SG programme, ALMA Sistemi continues to strengthen its role within the European aerospace industry, contributing innovative expertise to the next generation of Earth observation satellites.
